A community café is what I’ve wanted to build since long before I had the words for it. My father, may God have mercy on him, used to say: “A man who only opens his door to customers is a merchant. A man who opens his door to his community is a leader.”
I never forgot that.
What I See When I Imagine This Community Café
When I imagine Rayan Sip, I don’t just see an espresso machine. I don’t just see cups, saucers, and croissants behind glass.
I see a mother walking in with her child, and the child’s face lights up because today is his birthday — and we remembered. I see a student sitting in the corner, laughing at something happening on a live stream we’re broadcasting from the counter. I see an elderly woman opening a small gift we handed her, not because she paid for it, but because she walked in.
This is the café I dream of. Not a transaction. Not a menu. But a community.
Why Just Serve Coffee When You Can Serve Joy?
Every café serves coffee. Some serve good coffee. But how many serve surprise? Delight? A reason to come back not just for the drink, but for the moment?
I’ve worked in enough shops to know that most places are the same. Customers walk in. They order. They pay. They leave. There’s nothing wrong with that. But there’s nothing memorable about it either.
That instinct isn’t just mine — sociologists have studied it for decades. The idea of a “third place,” somewhere that isn’t home and isn’t work, was popularized by Ray Oldenburg, and coffee shops are one of the clearest examples he pointed to. Coffee industry writers still reference his work today when talking about what makes a café feel like more than a place to grab a drink.
I want Rayan Sip to be that kind of place. Memorable, not just functional.
Idea 1: Live, Loud, and Full of Love
One of the things I’m most excited about is live broadcasts, right from the café.
Imagine tuning in to our social media and seeing me behind the counter, making a drink, answering questions, laughing with customers who agreed to be on camera. Imagine a weekly segment where we draw a name from our member list and give them a prize — live. Imagine birthday shoutouts, surprise giveaways, and moments that can’t be planned because they’re real.
The café won’t just exist in Rabat. It will exist on phones and screens wherever our community is.
Idea 2: Birthdays, Children, and the Magic of Being Seen
I have a soft spot for children. Every time a child walks into the shop where I work, I give them a little extra attention. A smile. A joke. Sometimes a piece of chocolate when no one’s looking.
At Rayan Sip, I want to make that official. If a child has a birthday, we’ll know. We’ll prepare something — a small cake, a candle, a song from the team. It doesn’t cost much. But to a child, it’s everything.
Because Rayan was once a little boy pressing his nose against a glass, and I remember.
Idea 3: Random Acts of Kindness
This is the heart of Rayan Sip.
Every day, one customer — maybe two — will receive their order for free. Not because they won a contest. Not because they’re a member. Just because they looked tired. Just because they smiled at the right moment.
I can already see their faces. The confusion. Then the slow smile. Then the question: “Why me?” And the answer: “Because today, you were chosen.”
This isn’t just a nice gesture, either. Harvard Health points to research showing that small acts of kindness genuinely improve happiness, reduce anxiety, and even lower blood pressure, for the giver as much as the receiver.
Idea 4: A Membership That Means Something
I’m also working on a membership card, a loyalty program, but deeper.
Customers who join will earn points with every visit, but the rewards won’t just be discounts. They’ll be experiences: a free breakfast on a random morning, a personalized drink named after them, a seat at an exclusive tasting event, a chance to name a new pastry on the menu.
Small businesses that lean into community-based rewards tend to build something stronger than a discount card — they build belonging. That’s exactly what I want this membership to feel like.
An Invitation to Build This Community Café Together
I’ve shared my vision, my heart, my wild, beautiful dream of a café that doesn’t just serve drinks, but serves people.
But I cannot build this alone. I need partners. Supporters. Investors who understand that the best businesses are not built on profit alone — they are built on purpose. If some of this sounds familiar, it should: it’s the same spirit behind the recipes I’ve been sharing since day one, and the same care behind the breakfast menu I’m building for this café.
If you believe in what I’m building — if you want to be part of a café that gives children free pastries, that surprises tired mothers with free drinks, that broadcasts joy to the world — then I invite you to join me.
Your investment will not just fund equipment and rent. It will fund moments. Memories. Smiles that wouldn’t exist without you. You will be more than a donor. You will be a co-founder of kindness.
Let’s build a community together. Let’s open doors that welcome everyone. Let’s show the world that a café can be more than a café — it can be a home.
